We have heard of coronaviruses. They have been among the human population for years. This one is new, novel.
This new coronavirus, aptly named "coronavirus disease 2019", is being COVID-19. The name is abbreviated in this fashion: COronaVIrus Disease 2019.
Coronaviruses have been around for centuries: What Diffierentiates COVID-19, (Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland , Ohio 44195).
Additionally, partly why this coronavirus is new to humans regardless of the human immune knowledge of the coronaviruses, is that this coronavirus evolved from animals (National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), Division of Viral Diseases).
